ARISTOTLE'S POETICS

ARISTOTLE'S POETICS:

1.How far do you agree with Plato’s objection to freedom of expression and artistic liberty enjoyed by creative writers? Name the texts (novels, plays, poems, movies, TV soaps etc which can be rightfully objected and banned with reference to Plato’s objections).

We should follow the Ideas of Aristotle, but I also agree with Plato's freedom by writers. According to me,Plato is right because in many films, magazines, Tv soaps, poems and also novels are producing bad impression in our society and it is also spoil our minds.

In our generation the movie write story on our great history and make a film on it. But sometimes the create their own script on it and forget the real story which is necessary to attach the real story.

When writers do that types of mistakes people are against the films and also film makers. I saw the movie list which was banned by our government and censor board. FANAA, PADMAVATI , JODHAA AKBAR. This films were banned in many states because of regional issue.

The ''PARZANIA''movie which was also face the same situations like PADMAVATI. It faced similar wrath as it was based on the story of a boy,who gets lost during the Gujarat riots. However,it didn't go well with the censor board and it was banned.

2.With reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A. programme, write brief note on the texts which followed Aristotelian literary tradition (i.e. his concept of tragedy, catharsis, tragic hero with hamartia etc).

HAMARTIA also called tragic flaw. Hamartia is also one of the Greek words the Apostle Paul uses for describing the sin of humanity.

By the Aristotle the sophocales strictly followed the three unities.  UNIYT OF TIME, UNITY OF PLACE, AND UNITY OF ACTION.

During my B.A programme I have studied the play William Shakespeare's ''OTHELLO''. The character of this tragedy and the main tragic hero is Othello. The hamartia of this tragedy is in Othello he have evil errors, anarchy of judgement and also jealousy.

The second tragedy which was I studied that is Arthur Miller's "ALL MY SONS". The tragic hero of this play is Joe keller.

A tragic, or fatal, flaw is the characteristic that the protagonist, Joe, has which causes his downfall or destruction. Joe's tragic flaw is pride. Because of this he feels that he will let his family down if he does not fight to the death to achieve the American Dream.

And also William Shakespeare's ''MACBETH''and Girish karnad's ''TUGLAQ''a tragedy which was studied by me in B.A.

3. With reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A. programme, write brief note on the texts which did NOT follow Aristotelian literary tradition. (i.e. his concept of tragedy, catharsis, tragic hero with hamartia etc.)

In our B.A programme we have studied the "HAIRY APE". Which was not follow Aristotelian literary tradition.

Because the Aristotle said that the hero of story he or she must be exceptional and of a high rank. But our story hero YANK he was not a king or Prince and also not handsome like others. He was a normal Stoker or worker in the ship.

The writer is Eugene O'Neill of this story HAIRY APE. In this story there were no faultd of yank for his own decay so it is a tragedy with no tragic flow. I notice that in this no villains like God and human. But the society is the real villain. Because they all started to call him as hairy ape.
